Women Business Hub View on SDG Goal 5 On Achieving Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls.

Gender equality for development is a core theme of Women Business Hub work and cuts across all thematic areas. Our interventions focus on “Gender Equality and Development” which is geared to improve (1) women and girls’ human capital, (2) Women and girls’ economic productivity, (3) Women and girls access to finance, and (4) inclusive empowerment.

Gender gaps in human capital are well-documented, but there is little evidence on how best to close those gaps. Women’s access to economic opportunities is undermined by their lower access to production inputs. Female farmers have less access to information, as agricultural extension networks are dominated by men.  Women Business Hub is promoting Entrepreneurship and SMEs development as the organization contribution towards addressing gender gaps in Human Capital.

Throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, women are disproportionately limited in their land ownership and transfer rights. That is why at Women Business Hub, Women and youth land ownership and governance is Key for sustainable development.

Access to productive assets constrains women’s economic opportunities, whether women farmers or micro-entrepreneurs. Women Business Hub is placing women in the center of the development agenda to increase their efficiency in management of community projects and resources.

Why it is important to strengthen the Systems of community based organizations

Community organizations and networks are uniquely positioned to interact with affected communities, respond quickly to community needs and issues, and engage with affected and vulnerable groups. They offer direct services to communities while also advocating for better programming and policy environments. This allows them to influence the development, reach, implementation, and oversight of public systems and policies, as well as the contribution of a community to health.
